Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced engineer to join the Climate and Structural Resilience team. This person will serve as the construction subject matter expert and technical representative, leading engineering activities and showcasing FM’s expertise in property loss mitigation related to construction practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction risk mitigation and a proven ability to develop and deliver innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead collaborative efforts with team members and key stakeholders to advise, train and consult on commercial/industrial construction risk mitigation practices and solutions tailored to our clients' needs.
  • Actively provide and demonstrate FM’s leadership and standards in construction risk mitigation, establishing recognition both internally and externally as the industry's leading technical voice.
  • Support and elevate the technical expertise within the organization for effective risk identification, quantification, and improvement.
  • Support the development and retention of profitable business by providing expert consulting relative to the assessment of new or unusual hazards or the development of timely, creative, reliable solutions to unique hazards.
  • Represent FM at key industry conferences, support, present and educate on relatable hazards, participate in committees, and engage with industry organizations.
  • Collaborate with FM engineering teams, client service, claims, and new business development teams to consistently deliver value and build long-term client partnerships.
  • Stay informed of trends in construction practices and techniques to ensure that current and evolving hazards are recognized, and effective solutions are developed.
  • Review research, identify trends, and determine how to implement findings in the field.
  • Investigate implications for hazards and risks pertaining to a wide range of industrial & commercial industries, such risks and products include, liquid damage, mass timber construction, hybrid structures, solar panels, mcm panels and new foam plastics, etc.
  • Collaborate with Research and FM Approvals to develop technical standards. Support experimental testing and establish quality benchmarks. Testing may include new materials, equipment, and products at our research campus to assess behavior under extreme Nat Haz, fire, and wind conditions, ensuring safety and compliance.

Participate in and provide training for operational teams, clients, and broker partners on construction hazards.

Qualifications

  • BS in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Fire Protection Engineering with a focus on construction.
  • 7+ years of construction design or related engineering experience.
  • Industry experience to include consulting or design of building envelope-related services, including curtain wall systems. Understanding of architectural practices is a plus.
  • Familiarity with International Building Code (IBC) and other regulations.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer highly preferred.
  • Professional experience in commercial construction practices and techniques.
  • Strong analytical thinker and decisive problem solver with logical application.
  • Exemplary consultative skills, including active listening.
  • Effective execution, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
  • Efficient time management ability with minimal supervision.
  • Possess excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven project management capabilities.
  • Open to travel domestically and globally.

Compensation, Grade, and Job Title will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and technical skillset.
