Responsibilities

 

We are seeking to fill a co-op position in the area of modeling impact on glass to generate actionable insights in support of our engineering standards and recommendations. This position will be with the materials science team of FM Research and is an on-site position located at Norwood, MA. The position will be up to 6 months and will start as soon as possible. The selected candidate will be working closely with and under the guidance of the project lead

 

 

  • Conduct computer simulations to study various impact scenarios on glass materials.
  • Analyze simulation data and prepare detailed reports on findings.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to refine simulation models and improve accuracy.
  • Assist in the development of new simulation techniques and methodologies.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of computer simulation tools and software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, LS-DYNA).
  • Basic knowledge of material properties and impact mechanics.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • (Preferred) Previous experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or MATLAB.
  • (Preferred) Experience with glass materials and their properties.
