Client Service is seeking an inquisitive, self-motivated candidate to join our team as an Underwriter. This is a full-time, in-office, permanent position based in Melbourne reporting to the Operations Chief Underwriter.

 

Responsibilities

In this position you will fulfill the technical underwriting function as a critical part of the Client Service Team, to develop insurance programs that satisfy existing/ prospective clients and FM.

You will be accountable to complete all necessary training to attain underwriting binding authority. Training is provided and will be a mix of formal class room training, independent study and on the job experience, customized to develop the skills and knowledge required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Validating client reported values, analysing exposures, developing pricing models, and purchasing reinsurance.
  • Ensure issued policies accurately reflect the agreed terms and conditions.
  • Act as a technical resource to the Australian Client Service department by gaining and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of company underwriting standards and policy forms. Stay informed of market conditions, reinsurance trends, and emerging developments.
  • Develop and manage relationships with reinsurers, loss adjusters, valuation providers, engineering and staff underwriting.

Qualifications

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent qualification
  • Experience: 2+ years insurance, engineering or financial services industry experience desired
  • Skills / Knowledge:
    • A learning mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Well-organised, with attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritise diverse activities and workload.
    • Proactive and resourceful, able to work effectively even when guidance is limited or ambiguous.
    • Dedicated team player with effective communication, both written and verbal.
