Schedule & Location: This is a full-time, non- exempt position based onsite in Waltham, MA. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours are required based on operational needs including working weekends on a rotational on-call basis as well as responding to emergency calls.

 

Eligibility: Applicants must live within 50 miles of our office in Waltham, MA. Relocation is not offered for this position

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

 

At FM, we seek a committed Facilities Engineer to become part of our team!

 

Aid the facilities team in daily operations for office and lab assets, providing high-level service to tenants, collaborators, customers, and team members. Tasks include maintenance, repairs, tenant orders, and vendor escorting.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Performing general building maintenance, including replacing lights, ceiling tiles, and general clean-up.
  • Completing assigned base building and tenant work orders and contacting supervisors for assistance when necessary.
  • Recommending cost-saving measures where appropriate.
  • Conducting proactive maintenance on different equipment and finishing minor carpentry and plumbing tasks.
  • Conducting daily inspections of assigned buildings and referring items in need of repair to supervisors.
  • Monitoring snow removal operations and identifying potential safety issues.
  • Assisting senior engineers with trade-specific repairs and maintenance.
  • Managing work order systems (Building Engines) for all maintenance service requests and ensuring timely completion.

Experience & Technical Expertise

  • Minimum of 5 years of general facilities and maintenance experience, including work with commercial building equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and controls/automation systems.
  • Strong mechanical competence in troubleshooting and working with mechanical systems and tools.
  • Practical knowledge of Building Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Life Safety Systems.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic troubleshooting on MEP equipment.
  • Proven ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Understanding of fundamental carpentry and plumbing.

 

Interpersonal Abilities

  • Excellent communication abilities to engage effectively with supervisors, suppliers, service providers, and occupants.
  • Strong organizational abilities and effective time management, capable of task prioritization in a fast-paced setting.

 

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and the preparation of reports and spreadsheets.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and systems to support daily operations.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds as part of regular job duties.

 

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA training on safety and compliance is a plus!

 

The hiring range for this position is $30.08 to $37.60 an hour. The final hourly rate offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
