This position is accountable for leading the technical underwriting while fostering relationships and engineering skills. This position is acting as the trusted advisor or right hand assistance to the Account Manager, primarily with underwriting, policy issuance and invoicing. Individuals in this position will complete all necessary training in underwriting, engineering, relationships, client servicing and sales as outlined in a specific development plan. This could extend to basic engineering training based on a candidate’s experience.  It is expected that people in this position will develop the skills, experience, and knowledge to ultimately transition into more advanced underwriting roles or account management. 

 

Depending on the level of the candidate's skill and experience this position may be eligible for alignmentto a higher grade.Varying levels of experience and qualifications will be considered.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership for the technical underwriting to the client service team in handling underwriting duties including risk assessment, risk transfer, MFL Study development, and pricing. Individuals would also be expected to provide analysis of terms and conditions, values, and, review policies for accuracy.

Embraces loss prevention and control concepts including  how to read and use information from Risk Reports and apply their knowledge to use for underwriting in exposure identification and analysis.

Gains and maintains a good knowledge of the underwriting requirements, policy terms and conditions, profitability analysis, and pricing. Solid underwriting is paramount to helping the client service team maintain and sustain a profitable client relationship.

Provides feedback to the Account Manager in account servicing activities. Including: preparing for internal and external meetings, presentations, proposals to begin developing account management and effective presentation skills.

Applies interpersonal skills to build relationships with Client Service Team members working in a variety of roles from processing to engineering to account management to Staff Underwriting and operations management.

Qualifications

  • Four Year College Degree/Bachelors 
  • Two Years Underwriting experience preferred 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, computer skills and attention to detail is required 
  • Basic proficiency level in the competencies of Commercial Property Insurance, Business Communications, Exposure Analysis, Negotiations, and Presentation Skills.  
  • Intermediate proficiency level in the competencies of Interpersonal Skills, Planning & Organizing, Policy Terms & Conditions, Profitability Analysis, and Underwriting
