As part of our research department, you’ll work alongside other researchers and independently to understand emerging property loss-prevention hazards, quantify real-world scenarios, and develop new ways to protect against today’s property-loss threats. You’ll also work on implementation, evaluation, and development of techniques—including computer models and experiments—and present your findings to make strategic and beneficial advancements in risk mitigation.
Much of today’s industrial value chain is managed though the use of industrial control systems, like SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, Distributed Control Systems, and Process Control Systems, PLC systems and intelligent field instrumentation. The dependence on these digital control systems continues to grow, thereby improving functionality and economics. Interconnectivity between control systems, devices and system external information (i.e. Internet of Things) will play a major role in the future. Proper design, operation and maintenance of these control systems is crucial to protect our client’s business value.
We are looking for a Controls Systems Engineer / Researcher to join our team, preferably with a background in the Power Generation or Chemical industry. Hands on experience in analyzing systems diagrams, understanding normal operations and troubleshooting abnormal conditions is strongly desired. Experience with cyber related protection and issues and current standards is a strong plus.
The Controls Systems Engineer / Researcher will be part of our Risk, Reliability and Failure Prevention research team. Our research focus is on risk prevention and risk mitigation for our clients globally. The Controls Systems Engineer / Researcher will help identify the most pressing problems and develop practical guidance and solutions for risk mitigation. A specific focus area will be protecting system in high challenge industries, e.g. Power Generation and Chemical.
Education / Experience:
A Masters or PhD degree with a minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in instrumentation and control systems design, implementation or usage.
A degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related area is preferred.
Desired Skills and competency areas:
Integrity, security and risk evaluation of industrial control and safety instrumented systems
Control Systems vulnerability assessment
Experience with design of instrumentation and control systems in the Power Generation or Chemical Industry
Knowledge of IT technologies which might be leveraged and adapted to control system protection.
Familiarity (and certification) with current safety and security standards for instrumentation and control systems, e.g. GICSP certification, ISA99 Cybersecurity Fundamentals Specialist Certificate or IACRB SCADA Security Architect (CSSA), a big plus.
Ability to communicate with all layers in the organization.
Willingness to coach and mentor other team members.
Ability to self-start and multi-task and work within a high performance team.
