FM Global Research is the driving force behind our property loss-prevention engineering and understanding of the hazards our clients face. FM Global has been the leader in property loss-prevention research for more than 175 years.
As part of our research department, you’ll work alongside other researchers and independently to understand emerging property loss-prevention hazards, quantify real-world scenarios, and develop new ways to protect against today’s property-loss threats. You’ll also work on implementation, evaluation, and development of techniques—including computer models and experiments—and present your findings to make strategic and beneficial advancements in risk mitigation.
The person in this position will be responsible for planning and conducting research regarding hydrologic and/or hydrodynamic modeling of flood, and subsequent property losses.
Will be responsible for the evaluation, implementation and development of techniques, computer models or experiments related to property loss.
Other responsibilities involve analyzing data, including the development of new techniques to identify trends in intensity, frequency and other relevant attributes; preparing reports and presentations that describe the results of studies completed or in progress, the relevance of the results for loss prevention and risk management, and development and implementation of prevention and mitigation techniques; development of plans for strategic research that will lead to measurable, significant improvements in the ability to estimate future property loss.
This position requires a PhD degree; significant research record in flood model development; strong experience in hydrologic modeling; experience in hydrodynamic flood modeling; proven technical programming and modeling experience; experience with GIS programming and applications; strong knowledge of model physics, principles, setup, calibration, validation and sound analysis practices. Applicants must have demonstrated project management abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired to have solid background in probability and statistics, parallel computing, and precipitation simulation.
