Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to maintain and continuously improve FM Global's commitment to the safety and well being of our employees, the protection of our property, and our stewardship of the environment. In executing this commitment, FM Global is dedicated to ensuring compliance with all regulatory Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements. This EHS Coordinator position, reporting to the EHS Manager, is responsible for carrying out these ideals and assist in ensuring compliance with applicable EHS permits, laws and regulations.  This position includes support of R&D facilities in Norwood, MA and the FM Global Research Campus in West Glocester, RI.

Responsibilities

  • Requires the EHS Coordinator to take a pro-active and hands-on approach;
  • Coordinate and/or conduct general safety (i.e. not lab or equipment specific) training;
  • Assist in development or updating of EHS training programs, ensure that all appropriate personnel are trained, and document training
  • Assist lab owners and managers with EHS aspects of any new materials and operations (including hazard assessments, job hazard analyses, hazard awareness training, proper PPE selection, safe storage, etc);
  • Maintain necessary documentation for compliance;
  • Complete and submit environmental and safety reports accurately and on time;
  • Assist in resolution of any EHS concerns, accidents or incidents;
  • Support the proper completion of incident and accident investigations as needed;
  • Participate as a member of the emergency response teams. 

Qualifications - External

Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, occupational health science or engineering curriculum with equivalent training

Two + years experience as an EHS specialist, preferably with experience supporting an industrial, research or consulting environment

Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and /or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) highly desirable

24 or 40 hour HAZWOPER trained highly desirable

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with, and influence, diverse stakeholder groups

Ability to conduct infrequent lifting of up to 40 lbs

Involves moderate physical effort to conduct inspections of fire safety and emergency response related equipment
