Responsibilities - External

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing journal entries, creating and maintaining financial analysis schedules, and timely and accurate completion of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Accounting, reporting, research, and analysis on loss reserves, including annual analysis of reserve adequacy.  Coordinate with consulting actuaries and other departments to complete this deliverable
  • Fulfill audit requests on the annual consolidated financial statement audit.
  • Prepare schedules and footnotes required for U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) financial statements.
  • Respond to management or audit inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
  • Participate and occasionally take a lead role in projects, e.g. develop or enhance financial systems, create or improve processes, write or amend accounting policies and procedures

Qualifications - External

Bachelor's degree in finance/accounting

Professional certification (CPA, CMA preferred)

2+ years’ experience in public or 5 years’ equivalent experience

Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal with the ability to influence and manage relationships 

Ability and confidence to interact with senior management

Ability to develop advanced concepts, techniques, and standards

Attention to detail and strong organization skills

Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills

Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment with limited supervision

Advanced knowledge of general accounting principles and practices

Proficiency with financial systems and standard MS office software applications:   ERP, PeopleSoft (strongly desired) Microsoft Excel(advanced), Access(beginner-level), PowerPoint, and Word
