    Responsibilities - External

    The person in this position will be responsible for planning and conducting research regarding hazards and effects of earthquakes, and subsequent property losses.


    He or she will be responsible for the evaluation, implementation, and development of techniques and models related to earthquake hazards and property loss. Other responsibilities involve collecting and analyzing earthquake catalogs, geological faults and paleoseismic data, and geologic and geotechnical information, implementing new advances, and developing new techniques for improving seismic source characterization and hazard modeling.


    Work will include preparing reports and presentations that describe the results of studies completed or in progress, the relevance of the results for loss prevention and risk management, and development and implementation of prevention and mitigation techniques; and developing plans for strategic research that will lead to measurable, significant improvements in the ability to estimate future property loss.

    Qualifications - External

    The position requires a PhD degree; a significant research record in seismology or geology with an emphasis on seismic sources characterization, wave propagation, ground motions, site analysis, and seismic hazard modeling; proven technical programming experience; strong knowledge of model physics, principles, setup, calibration, validation, and sound analysis practices. Applicants must have demonstrated project management abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.


    Desired to have solid background in probability and statistics. GIS knowledge and familiarity with OpenQuake are pluses.
