This position directs the daily activities of the server and storage infrastructure support team ensuring that the team is well-positioned to provide server hardware, operating systems and enterprise storage support to FM Global’s business and applications development teams. The incumbent evaluates proposed server & storage infrastructure architecture, design and installation efforts to ensure that new solutions are aligned with Information Services and business needs and adheres to FM Global’s infrastructure standards and practices. This position manages the implementation of the infrastructure technologies and resources necessary to provide adequate performance, capacity, availability, and security. The incumbent maintains multiple server environments, which in many cases includes physical and virtual systems, remote equipment and both production and non-production systems. Critical to this role is the candidate's ability to collaboratively participate, influence and lead in the area of server and storage infrastructure automation. This will be in support of Information Service's overall Agile development methodology needs and will involve tight collaboration with multiple teams within the IS and Product organizations.
6+ years implementing and managing progressive, broad based IT systems with a focus on server technologies
Required technical skills include:
Technical knowledge and experience managing server systems implementation and operation knowledge of relevant technology, tools, and industry direction is critical. Understanding of data networking and data storage systems and their interaction within the server technologies space is necessary.
Broad awareness of current technology capabilities and trends in the areas of Windows operating systems, server hardware, networking, and storage technologies. Ability to apply this knowledge to provide business benefit is critical.
Strong conceptual understanding of:
Windows server environment consisting of the Windows operating system software, Windows Intel based hardware and virtualization technologies. This specifically includes VMWare, Azure cloud services (IaaS), VMWare/Hyper-V, server and domain level security protocols and practices, and supporting third party server systems management software.
Knowledge of Agile development methodology, terms and practices.
Familiarity with Microsoft’s .NET technology and practices.
Ability to identify and implement scripting solutions to automate repeatable processes.
Storage and backup technologies that include storage area networks (SANs), and network attached storage devices (NAS).
Data networking technologies that include LAN/WAN, remote access, network protocols and addressing, routing & switching devices & software, firewall & gateway devices
Performance monitoring/modeling tools such as systems center operations manager and MS performance monitor.
