    Within a predetermined specified timeframe, not to exceed one year, to develop the skill sets and understanding of the practices and procedures of Adjustment in order to become a competent FM Global Claims staff member able to perform prompt, equitable and satisfactory loss settlements.

    Responsibilities - External

    The successful candidate will be expected to:

     

    1. Successfully completes the adjuster training program. This includes participating in formalized training classes, performing supplemental independent study through the utilization of study guides, and trailing experienced adjusters. This training period typically is six to nine months in duration. Upon conclusion of program, the incumbent will take on a more responsible and independent role with guidance and approval for many actions still required.

     

    1. By trailing experienced adjustment personnel to various industry sites, the incumbent gains knowledge and understanding of relevant claims risk.   Also, familiarize himself/herself with the types of manufacturing and plant operations found within Insured locations. The incumbent subsequently learns how to address the exposures and apply same to insured customers' policies.

     

    1. Under the supervision of experienced adjustment personnel, investigates and assists the Insured in mitigation activities including but not limited to salvage, restoration of production, claims preparation, and subrogation.

     

    1. Under the supervision of experienced adjustment personnel, consults with the insured's top management and offers assistance in loss mitigation, salvage, restoration of production and claims preparation. Also under the approval of experienced adjustment personnel, can seek assistance both within the company as well as outside the company to assist in the adjustment process. Outside sources include recognized independent CPAs, consultants, engineers, and salvage experts.

     

    1. Under the supervision of experienced adjustment personnel, negotiates with the Insured to reconcile any differences of opinion regarding the loss measurement and/or coverage. The incumbent maintains rapport with the Insured in order to reach an equitable and favorable settlement as promptly as possible. The incumbent will forward recommendations to Operations Claims Office (Written) for payment.

     

    1. Keeps company personnel and offices advised of progress via the transmission of timely letters and memos as outlined in the FM Global procedures. Disagreements relating to coverage disputes shall be brought to the attention of the Operations Claims Manager (Written) for mediation of the issues.

     

    1. As a member of the FM Global Catastrophe Team the incumbent can be expected to attend catastrophes anywhere worldwide.

         

    8. Keeps abreast of company policies, procedures and adjustment techniques.

     

    Qualifications - External

    Four year college degree in engineering or other related discipline or equivalent experience desired. Depending upon state mandates, adjuster licensing could be required for this position, often requiring on-going education for annual recertification.

    Strong interpersonal skills including negotiating and consulting; and solid communication skills, both written and oral. Additionally must be organized and possess the ability to make quick and sound recommendations.
