The position is fully responsible for risk identification, assessment and improvement, and ongoing loss prevention consulting services to ensure the development and growth of a profitable construction business portfolio consistent with FM Global policies, business strategies, risk engineering guidelines and objectives.   Through effective consulting on construction risk management, onsite risk identification, mitigation solutions and construction supply chain resilience, clients will be best positioned to address the many emerging risk management issues associated with optimally completing construction projects in line with planned timelines and objectives. This is accomplished through accurate identification, evaluation and quantification of risk characteristics and exposures throughout the construction project and the overall assessment of construction site risk quality as the project evolves. It involves the allocation and management of both internal and external construction loss prevention and engineering resources including closely working with FM Global Cargo Risk Engineering on the storage and transportation risks associated with construction projects.   Consulting is provided to clients, their contractors and Client Service Team members on construction risk identification, prevention and mitigation, project management, contractor management, and management of change, as well as on priority risk improvement measures that have the most significant impact on loss frequency and severity during construction.   This involves helping the client understand their exposures to loss events during construction and their impact on project work, achievements and completion deadlines, recognizing the Insured’s risk tolerance level. The role will develop and recommend practical, cost-effective, mutually acceptable solutions to reduce and/or mitigate loss during construction.

Program areas include, but are not limited to air, land, water, waste, occupational health, and safety.   The EHS Specialist works with the Research and Approvals EHS Manager and local safety committees to meet objectives and maintain compliance.   The position has the responsibility to identify and recommend actions to reduce EHS risk to employees and the business. The position also has the responsibility to support local management in the implementation of policies and programs to mitigate such risk in accordance with local laws and corporate policy.   The EHS Specialist will serve as a technical leader in the following areas: hazardous materials manager; radiation safety and laser safety officer, emergency response teams; drinking water and wastewater treatment; periodic local, state, and federal reporting as required.   The EHS Specialist is required to be familiar with (and stay current on changes to) EHS regulations applicable to Research and Approvals operations and ensure FM Global EHS programs are compliant with applicable regulations, permits, and licenses. This is a full-time, in-office, permanent position, which is based in Melbourne. The position will report to the Operations Chief Underwriter.   In order to best support the growth of our operation, our ideal candidate will either have an engineering degree and experience, or recent underwriting experience. However varying levels of experience and qualifications will be considered.    Working as a critical team member on large and complex accounts under the leadership of the account manager, the underwriter supports underwriting decisions and implementation across the program.   This includes risk selection, risk assessment, and risk transfer decisions that support development and retention of a profitable book of business for the mutual benefit of FM Global and its clients. As an underwriter you will be involved in understanding the risk quality and exposure of an account, data collection and analysis, reviewing and issuing insurance policies, developing client relationships and proposal development. Supporting new business is also a key aspect of the role.      You will be provided with extensive training in underwriting, client servicing and sales as outlined in a specific development plan. This will include travel to our Corporate Office and developing networks by engaging with underwriters and account managers from around the globe.
